Our connection to this village happened because of soccer.  I often tell the players I coach

that your love and passion for soccer can make a difference in the world.  Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine God would do what he has done in this community all because I said Yes to putting on a soccer clinic.

William asked us to tutor, but I really just wanted to play soccer so each Saturday we came out to the village with a bag of soccer balls.  I put them through all the drills and games we did back in the states.  They loved it!  More and more would come each week until we ran out of space.

My grandpa had always been one of my biggest soccer fans and I was writing home telling him about my soccer clinic.  His mother had just died and he had received $500.  He gave it to me to buy a bigger piece of land for us to play soccer on.

From there it continued to grow into a soccer team that played on Sundays, friends, families, and soccer organizations donating shoes, shin guards, balls, and other soccer gear.  It was awesome.

Soccer is still a piece of what goes on at the church, but there is so much more.  It’s amazing what God can do when you just say “yes!”
